Trigger & Bait: Hunting in Argentina with John Hughes, exclusive outfitter for the South Carolina Waterfowl Association

  What to bring

Electric current in Argentina is 220 V; so you will need adapters and transformers for shavers, etc.. The plugs here are round and not flat as in US and Europe. A standard transformer from 220 V to 110 V will do the trick..

Insect repellent helps on many occasions in the duck areas.

Do not forget your camera, film, batteries, etc..

Eye and ear protection is a must for heavy shooting.

Gloves for cold mornings or a good pair also helps the fingers when reloading an autoloader. A sore thumb can make hunting not so attractive.

Bring two guns, if foreign made, register your guns before departure; form 4457 US Customs will help when you return to the US.

The technical form needed in order to bring firearms into Argentina and to take them back to their country of origin can be downloaded from: http://www.renar.gov.ar/turista/form_a.pdf

The weather in Argentina is opposite to that of US and Europe as we are in the southern hemisphere. Temperatures in Buenos Aires during the month of July equate to December temperatures in Greenville,SC in the US.; to make it brief. Our coldest hunting area when waterfowling or up-land bird shooting is in the Cnel. Pringles area; (program N* 5), early morning frost; the wind chill effect plus an early morning start all help to make it feel chilly.
Temperatures here can range between 30´s early in the morning to 40´s and 50´s at noon and the afternoons. Other areas can be fresh in the morning but then warm by mid morning; noon and the afternoons; say 50´s to 70´s ºF.
The wind chill on some occasions when on the launches in the duck areas,
( programs 2 and 4) may be chilly but a good wind-breaking jacket / parka will help.

Short cut boots that are both waterproof and comfortable to walk in, are ideal for the partridge/perdiz shoots on the open fields.

Briar pants are not necessary in any of the areas.

Last but most important, the chest waders we all hate packing, do a great job in the duck hunting area and are handy for geese shoot as they will keep you warm as well as dry. All clothing should be green; brown or camo.
